World Music: passion and diversity

What, in a multicultural Australia, is ‘world music’? Roger Holdsworth, presenter of the Global Village program on PBS-FM presents an introduction to the meaning, range, depth … and controversy … of this term. You’ll also hear some examples of music from here and elsewhere and hopefully be moved by the passion, beauty and diversity of global sounds

Jets School Holiday Program
This school holidays Jets brings you a really exciting school holiday program. Together with SYN FM radio we will learn about producing a live radio program and writing our own radio play to go live to air! This workshop will run for 4 days :
Day 1 – Tuesday 25th September 10 – 2pm
Radio tour to SYN FM. Learn how a radio station works and together produce a radio program that will go live to air and also be available for downloading at a later point.
Day 2 – Thursday 27th September 10 – 2pm
Write a radio play. Together the group will work with SYN FM & Jets facilitators to come up with a script to transform into a radio play complete with narrators and voice characters.
Day 3 – Tuesday 2nd October 10 – 2pm
Compile a sound track. Using Jets broad and eclectic instruments the group will compile a sound track for the radio play. Complete with narrators, voice characters & musicians to compile the sound track.
Day 4 – Thursday 4th October 10 – 2pm
Go Live to air at SYN radio. After lots of practice and hard work our radio play will be taken to SYN to be played on air! The morning will comprise of a practice session in the station, followed by 1 hour of air time. This program will be a whole of fun!!

The Malahang Community Festival is back this November bolder and brighter than ever! The festival is a celebration of the vibrant Malahang Reserve and will highlight local talent and support local groups and businesses within the Heidelberg West area. This will be a great opportunity for you to connect with people in your local community and to discover something spectacular that is happening in your own backyard. This year we celebrate the 56th anniversary since the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games with themes of Olympics and sport running through the event. The festival promises roving performers, live music, old fashioned games, sport workshops, skate competitions, art workshops and much, much more!

Make sure you come down to Malahang Reserve this November and join the celebration and the festivities. You will not want to miss it!

Youth Blog Project

Banyule Youth service and Express Media are launching a Youth Blog project and are looking to form an editorial team of young people aged between 15-20 years who live, work or play in Banyule. Meetings will be held once per month on a Wednesday evening in Rosanna.

DVA Theatre
DVA theatre company, specialising in theatre by Adults with Intellectual disability, are looking for volunteers to assist with a film shoot in October at Monstalvat, in conjunction with Platform Theatre. This film will form part of a performance project to be staged in 2013 at LaMama Theatre. Volunteers are needed to support participants over 3 Mondays in October as well as some weekends. Club W Music Camp now open

Wendy’s Music is running its term 3 school holiday music camp for all primary school age creative kids. Whether your child has ever done a music class or not, Club W is all about fun and building confidence and learning creative skills through music. Club W will be offered at Wendy’s Music studios in Diamond Creek, Reservoir and Rosanna and will run both weeks of the September/October school holiday break from 9am – 3 pm Monday to Friday for $70 per day.

Club W sessions include various fun activities such as song writing, music theory and listening games, vocal group, rock band, drama, dance and showcase concert with an emphasis on developing a child’s creativity in a family orientated group environment.

Dala Minda Youth Theatre

The Tudor Chorister’s Celebrate 50 years

On Friday 21 September at 8 pm at St, George’s Anglican Church, East Ivanhoe Tudor Choristers will perform music from programmes spanning its 50 year history. Founded iun 1962 by local pharmacist David Carolane OAM, the original choir of 8 voices sang as an entertainment for a seniors group in Ivanhoe, Victoria. The Tudor Choristers grew to become one of the most respected choirs in Australia, specialising in a capella music of the Tudor period from which it takes its name.
The concert will be conducted by musical director Alexandra Cameron and conductor laureate, David Carolane OAM. The programme will include works by Tudor composers King Henry VIII, Tallis, Byrd Tomkins and others, J.S. Bach, Vaughan Williams, Britten, Williamson and the first performance of a new work ‘In Places Where They Sing’ Music by Andrew Aronowicz poem by Mary Jones and commissioned especially for our 50 Anniversary.
