Bulleen Art & Garden was selected as a finalist in the Small & Medium Enterprises category of the prestigious 2012 Premier’s Sustainability Awards.
These awards recognise sustainability initiatives by individuals and organisations across Victoria and acknowledge leadership, innovation and achievement in the business, government, community, tertiary education and built environment fields.
Bulleen Art & Garden (BAAG) shows how a retail nursery can inspire and enable sustainable living and gardening. We show that sustainability is fun by:
- Helping people grow their own food. The Edible Alley and other demonstration gardens show how this can be done.
- Inspiration and education – sustainable gardening classes, web, newsletters, Facebook, Twitter, staff advice, signage and inspirational display gardens and art.
- Community projects in partnerships with local organisations.
- Revegetation of the local parks. BAAG is surrounded by Yarra Valley parks – an island of bush in the suburbs. Since 1996 we have been working to revegetate this area and encourage biodiversity – planting local native plants, weed reduction, a biofiltration pond. Last weekend we had a Habitat walk showing progress of this long term project.

Category winners will be announced on Tuesday 2 October at Peninsula, Docklands.
The awards are managed by Sustainability Victoria and are now in their 10th year.
